A family returning to Pune after a decade abroad bought back into a building they knew. The floor plate was excellent; everything applied on top of it was thirty years old.

Keep what was good — the plan, the light, the mosaic flooring in two rooms — and replace what was failing. A renovation with a genuine conservation instinct rather than a strip-out.
What we changed
- Retained and restored the original mosaic flooring in the living and dining rooms instead of covering it.
- Replaced all services and rebuilt both bathrooms with modern waterproofing while leaving the structural plan untouched.
- Designed the kitchen within the original footprint, using full-height units to make up for the lack of a utility room.
Outcome
The flat keeps the character that made the family buy back into the building, with services that will last another thirty years.
